This position ensures full development pipeline and platform infrastructure availability and operations. In a proactive way, the Operations engineer safeguards systems performance by analyzing, implementing, and delivering qualitative cloud infrastructure components or upgrades as part of the formal platform release schedule. In a reactive manner, (s)he will adequately respond to incidents on all managed environments and take the lead in service restoration, incident resolution, and formalization / follow up of lessons learned.

The operations engineer has ownership over software license management and attribution and will provide support to colleagues that need technical assistance.

Key Responsibilities as an Operations engineer

  • Manage all data center and data operations
  • Detect and perform needed lifecycle management operations on the (cloud) infrastructure
  • Ensure functionality and regular testing of DRP routines, data backup schedules, ...
  • Regularly revise the cloud architecture, continuously detect and propose opportunities for improvement thereof
  • Incident and problem managament (ITIL)
  • Provide general IT support to colleagues (Request fulfillment)
  • Participate in platform feature analysis in order to ensure a good functionality - infrastructure fit
  • Maintain and continually improve build and deployment infrastructure

Job requirements

Skills we are looking for: 

  • General system engineering/administration experience
  • Very fluent in English both written and spoken, other languages are a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience in engineering, information systems, security, and cloud infrastructure.
  • 3 to 5 years of industry experience, including 2 or more years in Cloud systems engineering or consulting
  • Proven technology skills, outstanding interpersonal abilities, and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, plus analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Stress resistant can keep a clear focus on the resolution in an incident context
  • Flexible working hours, willing to take part in a 24x7 support organization
  • Positive service-oriented personality
  • Experience in managing cloud platforms on GKE and AWS
  • Proficient in Linux / Unix systems administration

Nice to haves:

  • Software Security experience
  • ITIL knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with (a subset of) following:
      • GKE, Istio, Minio, Redis, Graylog, PowerBI, MongoDB
      • General web technologies such as HTML, CSS
      • An understanding of Angular, .Net technologies, Azure DevOps
  • Software Security experience
    • Software Security experience
